Blog Journal #4

For Standard 1: Communication and Collaboration, you must identify a wide variety of digital tools used for that, as be able to conduct basic keyboard searches and exchange information with teachers and other students. You must also use technology as a means of solving problems and provide and accept constructive criticism to and from others. As for if I meet these requirements, I would probably need a bit of work. I can identify digital tools and conduct searches easily enough, but I'm not sure if I could really fulfill all of the requirements involving collaboration.

Up next, I chose a resource for grade 2 English and selected one of the resources. The one I chose was Cool Context Clues, an interactive tutorial where students must help Pat the Penquin find the meanings of unknown words. I chose this because it appears to have a level of interactivity that I can appreciate. Helping a character find out what certain words mean is potentially a lot more interesting and engaging than just a simple lecture on them.

Doing basic Google searches is a relatively simple task, but if you want to go more advanced, it's a little beyond that. You can add or subtract words to narrow down your results, such as dog -ball to show dogs without a ball in sight. Additionally with image searches, you can also select a specific color, image type, and even usage rights. Advanced searches can also do wonders in finding something very specific that you need. Also, do yourself a favor and turn safe-search on.
